Saint Mary Domenica Mazzarello

"Love the Lord with all your heart and do not do anything that displeases Him."

— Saint Mary Domenica Mazzarello
Co-Foundress and First Superior General
Mary Domenica Mazzarello (1837–1881) was an Italian Roman Catholic nun who co-founded the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians together with Don John Bosco. Born in Mornese, Piedmont, she grew up in a devout family and early on demonstrated an extraordinary apostolic spirit.

Mary organized a dressmaking workshop for young girls, which eventually became the seedbed of the FMA Institute. On August 5, 1872, she pronounced her religious vows along with the first group of eleven young women, becoming the first Superior General of the new Institute.

Known for her simplicity, humility, and joyful spirit, she guided the Institute during its foundational years, inspiring Sisters with her motto: "Amate il Signore con tutto il cuore" (Love the Lord with all your heart). She was canonized by Pope Pius XII on June 24, 1951.
