St. Francis De Sales

"Ask for nothing, refuse nothing."

— St. Francis De Sales
Patron of Salesian Spirituality
Saint Francis de Sales (1567–1622) was a Bishop of Geneva and is revered as a Doctor of the Church. He is recognized as the patron saint of writers, journalists, and the deaf. His spirituality, characterized by gentleness, optimism, and the universal call to holiness, profoundly inspired Don Bosco and became the foundational spirit of the entire Salesian family.

His work "Introduction to the Devout Life" remains a spiritual classic, showing that holiness is possible and desirable for people in all walks of life. The "Salesian spirit"—marked by joy, gentleness, and pastoral charity—takes its name from him. For the FMA, Francis de Sales is the wellspring of their characteristic gentleness and apostolic zeal.
